Yusuf Maart and Molefi Ntseki address Kaizer Chiefs' brand of football

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart says the brand of football the team plays is very important in talking to those in the stands and entertaining their multitudes of fans around the country.

While speaking to the media at the club’s Village in Naturena ahead of their DStv Premiership game against Royal AM at FNB Stadium on Saturday, Maart highlighted the importance of their style of play.

"I think that's a very good question because you need to dominate and play, because the fans are outside, spending their money to come and watch us," acknowledged Maart.

"We just need to put our effort in and try and work harder on the ball, and dominate with the ball, and give them goals and wins.

"We've been working on ball rotation and ball speed at training, and I just talk to myself also because it's more movement off the ball, more movement on the ball.

"I think we've worked a lot on it as midfielders, as number-10's, as strikers, wingers, and even as wing-backs too."

During their past three matches, Chiefs were dominated in ball possession by the opposition, but it was also important they start to pick up results and build their confidence.

Head coach Molefi Ntseki noted, during the FIFA break, these were some of the things they started to address.

"The most important thing was to work through the progression, starting play from the back, progressing into the midfield, and also in attack and last-third entries, [while] adding more numbers in attack so we can create more scoring opportunities," added Ntseki.

"How you play and how you win is important because, when we talk of being a possession-type of team, possession must result in goals and come into creating more chances.

"I think when you look at our team for the past few matches, we were scoring goals and it was not more about possession, but that is what we have been working on when we were doing our reflection of the past five [league] matches and the two cup [MTN8] matches.

"So, when you look at the build-up, coming out of the back, into midfield and also into attach, it has been a bit of a challenge, especially when it comes to the numbers in attack.

"I think the guys have responded positively in terms of our playing patterns, and our game model going into the next five-match cycle."
