Done Deal: Given Msimango leaves Chiefs for Stellies in Phili agreement

The transfer forms part of the deal that will see winger Langelihle Phili head in the opposite direction to Naturena. 

As previously reported by the public broadcaster, Chiefs agreed to include Msimango and striker Ashley du Preez, along with a cash component, to secure Phili’s signature.

Phili arrived in Johannesburg on Sunday evening and is expected to put pen to paper on a long-term contract with Amakhosi.

Msimango joined Chiefs from TS Galaxy in 2023 but endured an injury-disrupted 2025/26 campaign, limiting his opportunities. 

Once fit, he featured under co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze and travelled with the squad on their pre-season tour of Spain.

However, despite having a year remaining on his contract, Chiefs have decided to allow the centre-back to move on.

Indications are that Msimango has agreed a three-year contract with Stellenbosch, where he will begin a new chapter under head coach Gavin Hunt.

Du Preez, meanwhile, was already included in Stellenbosch’s matchday squad for their Betway Premiership defeat to AmaZulu over the weekend.

Chiefs remain active in the transfer market and are expected to conclude further business before the window closes in September. 

One deal that is now effectively complete is Phili’s move to Naturena, with Msimango’s transfer to Stellenbosch also now agreed in principle, pending the completion of the formalities.
