SuperSport United not undermining struggling Kaizer Chiefs says striker Etiosa Ighodaro

SuperSport United are desperate to end their poor run of form, but striker Etiosa Ighodaro says they won’t undermine the next opponent in Kaizer Chiefs, who are also struggling in the DStv Premiership.

Matsatsantsa face the Glamour Boys at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday evening looking to win their first league game in 2024.

Chiefs aren’t too far off either and Ighodaro hopes SuperSport finally come to the party.

"No, we've been pushing, we've been pushing very hard it's not an easy team to play against so we know what we're expecting. So, we're focusing on our tactics, and what to fix. I feel like our defense needs to come on board, solid next time. If we don't score, we don't concede because we always score, we are one of the teams in the PSL that have the most goals. So, I feel like we should defend more," Ighodaro said.

The Sundowns loanee ended the previous season as the top goal scorer at Chippa United but has not made as big an impact since joining SuperSport.

He admits his contribution can improve.

"I understand the way we wanna play but as I know minutes are not what I have. I have to manage the circumstances and what is going on. I feel like I just have to take my minutes seriously, come in, impact the game," he added.

Teammate and goalkeeper Washington Arubi will continue to stand-in for first choice Ricardo Goss, who is serving the last of his two-match suspension following a red card.

The veteran goalie says the unfavourable results haven’t been for the lack of trying.

"Sometimes in life, you have to look for your own luck but we're positive that one day we're gonna turn the corner. We're looking forward to this upcoming game against Kaizer Chiefs. It's a big game for both teams because we're coming from losses but both of us are wounded but the team that is gonna put more effort is the one that is gonna win the game," Arubi said.
