Miguel offers advice to Silva

Settling in a new country and a new league is not easy and requires a lot of adaptation, but newly appointed Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel says he has one piece of advice for Amakhosi’s new striker, Flavio Silva.

His advice - adapt first.

Miguel, an Angolan international who is now in his second season in South Africa after joining from Petro de Luanda, says Silva, who hails from Portugal and Guinea-Bissau, must adapt to the club and not the other way around.

"When a foreign player comes to Kaizer Chiefs, the club does not adapt to the player, but rather the player must adapt to the club and to the league," explained the skipper.

Miguel also says the recent trip to Holland has helped the new players and the youngsters in the team to settle, ahead of what is expected to be yet another challenging season for Chiefs.

"We are still very much busy with the adaptation process, and this does not just concern the youngsters from the DDC.

"I'm happy with the effort the boys put in after this friendly in Durban, but also of the work we did in Holland."

The departure of former captain Yusuf Maart, who has since been sold to Austrian Bundesliga club SV Ried, sees Miguel filling the role of captain at Amakhosi.

Showing humility in his appointment, the Angola international stated that the leadership role is not just limited to him at the club.

"Of course, Yusuf Maart was one of our leaders, but he was not the only one. We now have to give our maximum effort to create change."

Despite missing out on qualifying for the MTN8 last season, Chiefs still ended their 10-year silverware drought when they beat archrivals Orlando Pirates to win the Nedbank Cup in May this year.

But Miguel says that’s all in the past, and now they are preparing to write a new chapter...
