Nabi was speaking to the media just before their final training session at the Princess Magogo Stadium ahead of their Toyota Cup friendly match against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban this afternoon (15:00).
Chiefs have signed seven new players already for the 2025/2026 season, but they are still thin upfront and possibly looking for an additional striker.
But Nabi says they’ll be patient in this process.
"There are one or two positions that we might strengthen but we're gonna look for the best opportunity in terms of quality because we don't want to fill a position just to fill it. We will wait as long as it requires to fill one or two positions for going ahead," Nabi said.
Chiefs have also roped in a couple of youngsters from their reserve team this season and Nabi says he’s looking at giving more of them, including those who were with the team last season a chance.
"As well, we've got to give the opportunity this season to the young players that came from DDC and the ones that were promoted last season because we feel that there is a big player like Tshabalala [Mduduzi] that have been given a lot of responsibility and carried the team on his shoulders,” he added.
“Last season, especially the first part of the league and after that at the end of the league, he kind of, not collapsed but his performance was not as good as we expected. That's why we want to give them responsibilities but also without burning them and even step by step."
The Asante Kotoko friendly match is the last preparation match for Chiefs, before they start their Betway Premiership campaign for the new season against Stellenbosch FC in two weeks’ time.
Nabi has more on his expectations from this game.
"About Asante Kotoko, this is a prestigious club in Ghana, in Africa with a big history and we are very happy to have them here and to play them. It's in the process of looking at challenging ourselves with other teams from other parts of Africa."
