Breaking: Siwelele suspend coach Lehlohonolo Seema over results

The side have collected just two points from five matches and are yet to win, with the hierarchy understood to have lost confidence in Seema’s ability to turn their fortunes around in the coming weeks.  

It’s understood Seema will therefore not be on the bench when Siwelele face Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday in a league fixture at Loftus Stadium. 

It is unclear who will take charge, but the club are assessing options, including promoting a coach Godfrey Mosoetsa from their reserve team on an interim basis.

Seema was appointed last season following the acquisition of the status previously held by SuperSport United, with his initial mandate to help steer the club clear of relegation.

However, the current run of results has raised fears that Siwelele could be dragged into another relegation battle, despite the season being only five matches old.

The club also endured a significant player exodus at the end of last season, most notably losing captain and goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, who returned to Sundowns following the end of his loan spell.

Siwelele did secure the loan signing of goalkeeper Jody February from Sundowns over the weekend, but he was not selected for Sunday’s defeat at Dobsonville Stadium.

The public broadcaster understands the decision to suspend Seema was taken following that result. Such a move can often precede a permanent parting of ways.

Should Seema ultimately leave, he would become the second Betway Premiership coach to depart this season after Sekhukhune United parted ways with Cedric Kaze.
