Tashreeq Matthews reveals the secret to staying fresh in hectic schedule

With matches coming thick and fast, Mamelodi Sundowns winger Tashreeq Matthews says resetting has become an essential part of the programme as they prepare to face Golden Arrows in the MTN8 on Sunday afternoon.

Matthews was one of the standout performers in Sundowns’ 5-2 thrashing of AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership in midweek, and he is hoping there is still more in the tank as they look to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the cup semi-final.

The 25-year-old believes what happens after every game is just as important as what happens during it.

"I'm off to the mosque. I finished training early; I also just had recovery, so I'm off to the mosque. I mean, we have to take it seriously because we play back-to-back games, and you don't get time to rest. You don't even get time to train properly, and your body only feels the pain the day after the game, so you have to take it seriously. I would say we take at least 45 minutes doing recovery," said Matthews.

On facing Arrows, Matthews insisted that The Brazilians will have to play on the front foot

As expected, the victory over AmaZulu has the Sundowns dressing room in high spirits and confident of getting the goals needed away at Arrows according to Matthews.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has been urging the genuine supporters to show up for the team after the blip against Arrows last weekend and Matthews has echoed the same sentiments.

"Yeah, I just wish that they can come out in their numbers to support us and be there. It really gives us a boost and the motivation to show us that we can do it."
