Nasreddine Nabi confirms plans for Kaizer Chiefs squad overhaul

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has given a strong indication that he will remain with the club despite failing to finish inside the top eight.

Speaking after their goalless draw with Polokwane City at FNB Stadium in their Betway Premiership season finale, Nabi says he has already been given assurance the squad will be improved.

He confirmed having met with chairman Kaizer Motaung on Friday, with plans in place to bring in more quality players for next season.

"Yesterday we had an exchange with the management and the Chairman, and we know exactly what needs to be done in terms of players," said Nabi.

"I will not say how many or which kind of players we need, but the recruitment department is working very hard, everyone knows the needs of the team, and contact has started already.

"When we get what we need, we are sure that the team is going to improve a lot."

Chefs missed out on MTN8 qualification for a second season running, ending ninth on the log with 32 points from 28 matches, after Richards Bay pipped them to eighth place on Saurday.

With the likes of Sekhukhune United, TS Galaxy, AmaZulu and Polokwane City having all finished in the top eight, Nabi did not take kindly to a question on whether these teams have better squads.

"This question doesn't come only from you, it comes from too many people who don't understand what's needed in the process of development," he argued.

"I think I remember we explained, if you want immediate results like the teams laying [above] today, what football do these teams propose? It's a bus in 18 yards and then counter-attack.

"Can you imagine Kaizer Chiefs playing like that in Africa? But Polokwane City finished better than me, they're in the top eight, but with what [kind of] football? You want Kaizer Chiefs to play this football?

"For myself, I know I came here for a game model that's needed at a big club like Kaizer Chiefs, and I know we've taken risks in defence, but I prefer to win with the principles of the game – offensive, protagonist philosophy of Kaizer Chiefs.

"Like [imagine] I'm in the top eight, but we'll go play against Zamalek and Wydad with 10 players in my 18-yard [box]."
