Stellenbosch FC conclude major Devin Titus talks

SABC Sport understands that the long-running contract negotiations between Stellenbosch FC and winger Devin Titus have finally been resolved, with a key decision now taken on the player’s future.

Titus, who is in the final six months of his contract, had been the subject of growing interest both locally and abroad, including from North Africa, leaving his situation uncertain for several weeks.

However, it is believed the two parties have agreed a deal in principle and an official announcement is expected imminently.

Stellenbosch were recently forced to knock back a lucrative offer from Egyptian side Al Masry, who are competing in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup and were keen to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.

Determined not to lose one of their prized academy graduates, coach Steve Barker had publicly confirmed that talks were ongoing to keep Titus in the Winelands beyond June 2026.

Orlando Pirates were also understood to have shown interest earlier this year, but the public broadcaster has been led to believe negotiations failed to materialise, with the Buccaneers instead opting to sign striker Andre de Jong.

Titus has now chosen to commit his future to Stellenbosch, continuing under Barker as the club battles to climb away from danger in the Betway Premiership, where they currently sit third from bottom after 14 matches.

A proposed three-year contract is believed to be on the table, a move that would also safeguard the club’s interests by ensuring they are entitled to a transfer fee should Titus be sold in the future.

Stellenbosch forfeited their right to claim development compensation when the winger turned 23 last year – meaning that, without a new deal, he would have been free to leave at the end of the season despite the club’s long-term investment.
