Gavin Hunt unhappy with opening loss at home away from home

While this was Stellies’ home game, it was played at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium in KZN due to the unavailability of all the venues in the Western Cape. 

AmaZulu’s Thandolwethu Ngwenya converted from the spot on the stroke of the hour after Mosa Lebusa conceded a penalty, and Hunt expressed his disappointment at how they lost the match.

"I'm of course disappointed because I don't think we deserved to lose the game, but they got the breakthrough and the penalty, there's not much more I can say."

He says they dominated the game and had the better possession, admitting that it was frustrating how they couldn’t convert that into goals.

Hunt was without experienced forward Devin Titus for the match, and revealed that he’s been struggling with injury. 

He also took a veiled swipe at Mamelodi Sundowns after their opening game against Marumo Gallants was postponed having just returned from pre-season camp in Europe.

"Much has gone on in the last few weeks for Devin, he is also struggling with a quad injury so he hasn't been in a good space. Some clubs get their games called off - yeah, okay."

The four-time league winner also weighed in on the Bafana Bafana coach debate, and who should be Hugo Broos’ successor after the Belgian officially left the post on Friday. 

He believes the people trusted with appointing the coach at SAFA may themselves just be the problem.

"It all depends who they are going to appoint that's the first thing and then who's appointing people - there's the first problem isn't it?

"I've been in three interviews and I've seen the people who conduct the interviews so good luck"
