Tshegofatso Mabasa jets to Morocco to complete transfer at new club

Mabasa has been a free agent since leaving Stellenbosch FC, where he spent the final six months of last season on loan from Orlando Pirates. 

Although the Cape Winelands outfit were keen to retain him, the two parties could not agree on terms, and he departed as part of the club's major squad overhaul following the arrival of coach Gavin Hunt.

The striker was linked with several Betway Premiership clubs, including AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs, but no move materialised despite his preference to remain in South Africa. Egyptian giants Pyramids, now coached by Rulani Mokwena, also showed interest, but foreign-player quota restrictions delayed any potential deal.

Mabasa could not wait for this to be resolved as he wanted to quickly get his career back on track this season. 

With Maghreb de Fes presenting a firm offer, Mabasa and his representatives opted to seize the opportunity to move to Morocco. 

Despite the recent departure of title-winning coach Pablo Franco Martín, the public broadcaster understands the transfer remains on track as the striker was identified by the club's hierarchy rather than the coaching staff.

Mabasa is expected to complete his medical before the move is officially announced early this week. The 29-year-old hopes the switch will reignite his career while giving him the opportunity to compete in the CAF Champions League after Maghreb de Fes secured qualification by winning the Moroccan league title.
