Simba not invincible - Steve Barker

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says they’ve seen enough of Simba SC to believe they can overturn their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final this weekend.

The Cape Winelands outfit will host the Tanzanians at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, hoping to either force the match to penalties or win by a margin of two goals to reach the final.

Stellies went down 1-0 in the first leg to a goal Barker felt should have been ruled offside by VAR, while arguing that the margin in Zanzibar was proof Simba are not invincible.

"There's no surety that we will get to the final but, based on what I've seen, Simba are beatable. I don't need two goals, I can win the game 1-0 and it can go to penalties," argued Barker.

"So it doesn't have to be [by a margin] of two, but I'm confident that if we play to our full potential, that we have the ability and quality to score two goals."

Equally so, Simba coach Fadlu Davids felt they let Stellies off the hook by only scoring one goal and expects them to be more clinical in Durban.

"We're a big club, and we cannot be happy with a scoreline like this, especially when you really had moments to make it two or three, or even 4-0," Davids said.

"This is where the players have really got to realise the stage we're in – we're in the semi-final stage, and you don't get big opportunities like we had this season in this match.

"So we've really got to improve this performance – it's definitely not good enough, in terms of what the players can do, and believe me, my players will be ready for the return leg once we get to South Africa."
