SABC and McDonald’s strengthen partnership ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Head of SABC Sport Keletso Totlhanyo says the partnership with McDonald’s is built to ensure that South Africans access the broadcast of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Totlhanyo was speaking at McDonald’s National Breakfast Day in Sandton, where the franchise hosted members of the public for a special breakfast deal.

She described the collaboration as important groundwork ahead of the global showpiece, set to take place from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

“We are celebrating National Breakfast Day with McDonald’s in Sandton. This partnership is valuable for the SABC and forms part of our preparation for the FIFA World Cup. As the official broadcaster, we are working towards delivering coverage from the opening match on 11 June through to the final on 19 July,” said Totlhanyo.

Football analysts and Kaizer Chiefs legends Doctor Khumalo and Itumeleng Khune were also in attendance, engaging with fans.

Totlhanyo said such initiatives align with the SABC’s mandate to bring its talent closer to communities.

“Our viewers aspire to meet personalities like Doctor Khumalo. It is important to make our talent accessible and connect with people on the ground,” added Totlhanyo.

Totlhanyo also called on corporate South Africa to support the broadcaster through sponsorships.

“We encourage corporates to partner with us and invest in sponsorship packages that will help us secure rights and continue delivering quality content to our viewers,” she concluded.
