This follows their hard-fought 4–3 victory on penalties over Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, after the match ended 1–1 in regulation time.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Sibiya highlighted the importance of such tournaments in preparing for the season, while also acknowledging the physical risks involved.
“It’s great motivation for the girls, honestly. They fought a good fight, especially considering we had to play six matches in two days with a limited squad of just 14 players and only one goalkeeper. They did a great job.
“Tournaments like these are very important for our preparation ahead of the league. However, they can also work to your disadvantage due to the high volume of matches, which can lead to serious injuries. I say this because we lost one of our key players, and our new signing also suffered a concussion. So yes, they help with preparation, but perhaps the structure could be less demanding on the players,” said Sibiya.
The 38-year-old mentor also reflected on how his side has responded to an extended pre-season period.
“We played against teams that were cramping, but my players didn’t cramp at all. It was only the usual chronic injuries. At times, there was a battle between the mind and the body, but in the end, the mind prevailed,” added Sibiya.
Sibiya believes his team is well-prepared and is optimistic about the upcoming campaign.
“We know where we are, and our history serves as both a reminder and motivation. We are looking forward to a great season - we are genuinely excited,” he expressed.
