NZ forward Chris Wood calls for higher level against Egypt

New Zealand striker Chris Wood believes the All Whites must raise their level when they face Egypt in a crucial FIFA World Cup Group G encounter.

The Kiwis opened their campaign with an entertaining 2-2 draw against Iran, while the Pharaohs were also held to a 1-1 stalemate by Belgium, leaving the group finely poised heading into the second round of fixtures.

Speaking ahead of the clash in Vancouver, Wood said both teams now have a better understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses.

"This game is going to be very different compared to the first one. For us as players it's just about bringing the same level of energy, intensity and technical ability on the pitch."

Wood, who has been capped by New Zealand over 90 times, added that his involvement at the World Cup is also about sharing his experience with teammates.

"I'm able to share some of my experience to the younger ones who haven't been through this, while focusing on my own role on the pitch and try to bring the best out of myself for the team."
