The biggest surprise is the acquisition of highly rated left-back Mdaka from Stellenbosch FC after the 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign in the Cape Winelands, making 34 appearances in all competitions and establishing himself as a key member of the squad under both Steve Barker and Gavin Hunt.
The public broadcaster understands that AmaZulu and Stellenbosch have reached an agreement for the sale of the defender, who is expected to complete his move to KwaZulu-Natal on 1 July.
Joining Mdaka at Usuthu will be former Stellenbosch attacker Khomotjo Lekoloane, who becomes available as a free agent after being released by the Winelands outfit.
Although his role fluctuated between starter and squad player, the man nicknamed ‘Kaka’ still managed 21 appearances across all competitions and remains highly regarded for his versatility in attack.
AmaZulu have also moved swiftly to secure the services of Gape Moralo, who leaves Siwelele FC on a free transfer as well.
Sources close to the player indicate Moralo had hoped to remain at the club where he progressed through the youth ranks and developed into a first-team player.
Despite previous interest from Orlando Pirates, Moralo remained loyal to the club and was waiting for a contract offer.
However, with no agreement forthcoming and his deal nearing expiry, AmaZulu stepped in with a proposal understood to have been accepted by the player.
The trio are expected to form part of a significant squad refresh at Usuthu as the club looks to improve on last season where they finished in fourth place under coach Arthur Zwane, who is also expected to sign a new contract.
