Sapula was honoured at the prestigious ceremony hosted in Johannesburg on Sunday night, following a dominant season in which he guided Sundowns Ladies to their sixth league title.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Sapula praised his technical staff for assisting him in navigating leadership in women’s football.
"Initially, I didn't know that there was a difference between the men's and the women's game. I thought they were all athletes, it's just football. But I had to learn very fast. The transition became smoother with the assistance of my technical team, coaches who have been in the women's game."
Sundowns managed to secure 26 wins in 30 outings last season. Sapula says it was good that they got to dominate in domestic football, but admits that this year will be dedicated to ensuring they secure a spot in the CAF Champions League.
"For me, we achieved well in terms of the domestic league, but also we still carry the scar of not qualifying for CAF Champions League, which is something we are really going to push for strongly next season."
The 52-year-old mentor also unpacked his plans ahead of the 2026 Super League season, stating that they are looking to promote a few outstanding players from the academy and add some new faces.
