Khama Billiat’s advice to Scottland FC ahead of CAF Champions League

Billiat will be the most experienced squad member for the Zimbabwean champions in the competition, having won it with the Brazilians 10 years ago and also played in another final with Kaizer Chiefs in 2021. 

The 35-year-old says the games in Africa’s premier club competition are highly tactical and require a great deal of maturity, urging his teammates to not be naïve heading into it.

"I think with the experience I've had in the CAF Champions League, you can only make sure that you play your best football and play with a lot of maturity. It's not just a game that you can win using only effort, these games are very tactical and you have to be in the right state of mind by understanding the opponent and the situation of the game."

He says the club has what it takes to do well in the Champions League, if what they’ve been doing in the ZPSL is anything to go by. He believes that they will not just be there to add numbers, but they have the ability to even make it to the group stages of the tournament.

Scottland won the Zimbabwean league in just their first season in the top flight, and look set to defend their title as they sit seven points clear at the top with 11 games to go. 

He explained that the ambition from management seeps through to the players, which keeps them pushing for more success in every game they play.

"I think what makes us strong is the commitment from the top. Our president is very supportive and ambitious. We also challenge ourselves to work hard and do better each and every single day."
