Durban City cleared for promotion, but no play-offs yet

This means City are officially the Motsepe Foundation Championship champions and will campaign in the Betway Premiership next season. 

JDR Stars already saw their case at the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber dismissed after chairperson Raymond Hack ruled that City followed proper procedures to register attacker Saziso Magawana, when he joined them from Marumo Gallants last season. 

The arbitration hearing took place on Friday, with the award handed down on Monday, subsequently clearing the way for City to continue with their celebrations after they finished five points clear at the top of the National First Division standings.

The outcome now means the Durban-based outfit will receive their MFC trophy and prize money and be promoted officially, while Stars and Spurs are left to foot the bill of the sitting.

The Urban Warriors are now also officially relegated to the ABC Motsepe League, however, the arbitration award can now still be set aside by the High Court, should they opt to go that route.

The League can also not proceed with the promotion and relegation play-offs as yet, with Cape Town City challenging the legality of last Thursday's league game between SuperSport United and Golden Arrows, according to the NSL Handbook. 

An arbitration is set to sit on Wednesday to resolve this matter, and this case is also threatening to bring more chaos to the league’s programme. 

City and United both finished with 27 points, but the Tshwane-based side boasts a superior goal difference, which promoted them to 14th spot, while the Capetonians are in set to contest the play-offs against Orbit College and Casric Stars.
