Bonolo Mokoma celebrates as 2025 HWBSL top nominee

Following an outstanding 2025 campaign with JVW, Mokoma has been nominated for the Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season and the Player’s Player of the Season awards. 

Speaking to SABC Sport, Mokoma says the recognition reflects her hard work throughout the season and it would be extra special to win the major Player of the Season award. 

"It really feels amazing and rewarding to be recognised and seen – I had worked really hard last season so I think the nominations mean a lot to me," said Mokoma.

"And obviously I'd be grateful for both awards, and I think it would be a proud moment and motivation for me to keep on pushing.

"I think if I was to choose one award between Player of the Season and Young Player, I think I would choose Player of the Season."

Mokoma, who was instrumental in helping JVW end second with 69 points – 11 points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, says playing as a unit was key to achieving this result. 

"I stayed disciplined and very consistent, and I also think it was putting the team first that was also [key], and as a team, I think our work rate was very good," she reflected.

"Our belief in each other also made the difference, and everyone understanding their role on the field [helped a lot]."
