Speaking to SABC Sport, Sukazi says the club is using the remainder of the campaign to assess the squad and test combinations, with a focus on developing its younger players.
“We know that an opponent like this will always be a challenge to any other team in the Hollywoodbets Super League. When you are available as chairman, you have to come and support. We have got a young team, and we are already preparing for next season. We don’t look at these results with a winning mindset. We look at this encounter as a measure to see what there is for us to build on and rectify for next season.
“For us, the most important thing is to give the youngsters experience, especially playing against a team like Sundowns. From a preparation point of view, we are on the right track in terms of building the team we want for the near future. We are not in a rush,” said Sukazi.
Sukazi believes his presence at the team’s matches sends a strong message about the club’s commitment to women’s football. He also called on corporate South Africa and the football fraternity to play a greater role in mobilising resources for the women’s game.
“You know that women’s football is not supported financially, and it is very strenuous to keep it afloat. That is why a lot of clubs are walking away from it, and some teams in the Premiership don’t want anything to do with it. That is why we are here to make a concerted effort to mobilise resources for the women’s team,” added Sukazi.
Meanwhile, Sukazi has wished Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies well ahead of their CAF Women’s Champions League campaign, which begins in Egypt on 1 November. He praised the Brazilians for their contribution to South African football on the continental stage, pledging the club’s support as they prepare to represent the country.
“They are a club in the women’s game that we are very proud of. They fly the South African flag high on the continent, and we will make sure we support them as much as we can ahead of their Champions League campaign.”
