NSA Exco dismiss call from council members to postpone ongoing elections

SABC Sport can confirm that Netball South Africa Exco has dismissed the call to postpone the ongoing elections for the incoming executive.

This after some council members pleaded with the federation to run the elections after receiving the final report on Cecilia Molokwane’s precautionary suspension.

Molokwane was suspended in April 2025 amid a disciplinary process opened against her by World Netball, following anonymous allegations made to the world governing body.

The public broadcaster can reveal on good authority that almost 17 districts have written to NSA demanding that the federation’s Quadrennial General meeting be postponed until matters in NSA are resolved.

In a letter of concern directed to NSA, three provinces - expressed disappointment over the prolonged investigation lodged over Molokwane’s suspension, citing that it could be a delay tactic to sideline her from the ongoing executive elections and requested the elections to be postponed.

“We received the 2nd letter on the 14 May 2025 informing us that World Netball has indicated that the matter concerning NSA President Ms. Molokwane is expected to be concluded within approximately seven weeks, and they’ve advised that no further information will be shared until the matter is resolved.  As members we are now seated on the 17th week and the matter has not yet been resolved.

Due to the above, we demand that NSA postpone on calling the QGM until matters in NSA Exco are resolved,’’ said one provincial Chairperson.

Letters directed to the South African mother body, received from 14 districts raising concerns regarding the federation’s ongoing elections also reached SABC Sport.

“We are concerned about the timing of the disciplinary process, which is scheduled to be addressed in October/November. This period coincides with the election period, and we strongly believe that the matter should be resolved before any elections take place. We propose that the NSA QGM notice and elections be put on hold until the allegations are thoroughly investigated and resolved. We believe that this approach will ensure transparency, fairness, and stability within the organisation,’’ stated one district chairperson.

In a correspondence seen by the public broadcaster, NSA insisted that the nomination process will continue despite concerns raised by some council members.

“NSA shall create an appropriate forum for council members to deliberate on

this matter. Further correspondence regarding the platform to deliberate on the elections will be communicated to members in due course. In the interim,

members are advised to proceed with the nomination process until further

Notice,’’ stated by NSA CEO Modiegi Komane.

The nomination process for the new NSA executive is open until 25 September, with the federation’s Quad General meeting scheduled for 25 October 2025.
