Kamogelo Maseko credits UK stint for improving her game

London Pulse goal attack Kamogelo Maseko says her move abroad has broadened her understanding of different training methods and strengthened her ability to adapt.

Maseko joined the Netball Super League in August last year, becoming one of eight Spar Proteas players currently plying their trade internationally.

Speaking to SABC Sport, she welcomed the growing number of South African players securing overseas contracts, saying the exposure to high-performance netball is crucial for development and learning to perform under pressure.

"I think it's important for players in the national team to get that international experience because it teaches us different coaching styles and we get to experience different training methods. A lot of the players who are in the Super League right now are training with some of the best players in this country and we get to compete against some of the best players in this country, and I think that teaches players adaptability, resilience and the ability perform under pressure."

Despite settling well in the United Kingdom, Maseko admits adapting to the colder weather conditions has been one of her biggest challenges.

The 24-year-old adds that consistency remains one of her key ambitions at London Pulse, along with enjoying the demands of high-performance netball.

Maseko, who spent nearly four years with the Gauteng Jaguars, says she looks back fondly on her time with the team and hopes to one day return and retire there.

"Coming into Gauteng Jaguars, I was not a starting player and it was something I had to wok for. I knew that it doesn't come easy, and I think that is one team that taught me what it means to be a resilient character.

The Gauteng Jaguards will always have a special place in my heart, and it's definitely a team I would go back to even if it's close off my career."
