Thinasonke Mbuli believes there is enough time to turn their HWBSL fortunes around

University of the Western Cape coach Thinasonke Mbuli says they are not worried about the team’s slow start into their 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League campaign, as they are affording new players some time to adjust.

This after UWC only managed to secure 2 wins in six matches in the first quarter of the league.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Mbuli says the technical team has asked players to be patient with one another to help turn things around.

“I won’t call it a challenge but with a lack of a better word, I can call it a challenge. But we know why we are here; we are in a rebuilding phase. We need to be a little bit patient with our players, we have a lot of new players and they need time to adjust.

“That is our language to the players, that they also need to be patient with one another.  As the technical team we are not worried, we see the work that they are putting at training. We are asking the fans of the team to also be patient with us. We will turn the corner and start winning games,’’ said Mbuli.

The 6-0 win against Royal Am was UWC’s first win in three matches. Mbuli explains why this victory was crucial to revive the team’s confidence.

“The win against Royal Am was really good for us, because we have not won matches back-to-back. It was a morale booster for our strikers, they haven’t scored goals in a while. I was happy to see them on a scoresheet. We needed this win ahead of big fixtures,’’ added Mbuli.

Mbuli shares expectations ahead for their Saturday home clash against JVW.

“We are expecting a tough match. They have players who are currently on form. But they are coming home, and we know we have a good record at home, and know the areas we need to work on. Good thing is they are coming here at home,’’ she expressed.
