Edwin Lisene - Team priority is to escape drop-zone

Newly appointed Diepkloof Ladies FC co-coach Edwin Lisene says his immediate priority is ensuring the team escapes the Hollywoodbets Super League relegation zone in the coming matches.

The Super League newcomers have managed just one win from their opening four fixtures of the 2026 campaign.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Lisene believes he and co-coach Jabulile Baloyi can achieve the club’s objectives by the end of the season.

“I was approached just before the season started, but there were a few things I needed to finalise before joining the club. I am excited to be here now, and I believe that coach Jabulile and I will work hard to make sure we fulfil the club’s mandate. I am here to ensure that the team escapes the relegation zone. We need to retain our league status,” said Lisene.

The former Richmond United coach added that he has arrived at Diepkloof with big ambitions and believes the team is capable of securing a top-four finish.

“It is all about working together as a unit. We have the right players and enough talent to take this team to the next level. With discipline and hard work, I believe we can achieve a top four finish, and that is our goal,” added Lisene.

The Johannesburg outfit will lock horns with the University of Pretoria at Mbombela Stadium this weekend. The 50-year-old mentor believes teamwork will be crucial if his side is to collect maximum points against a strong AmaTuks outfit.

“Like I said, it is all about working as a unit; it is not a one-man show. We will be playing against a very tough side. The only way to make sure we collect maximum points is to show up and play for each other.”
