The Baby Wolves strengthened their position at the top of the Super Rise stream with a 1-0 victory at Kabokweni Stadium in Mpumalanga.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Mafene says the team remains focused on collecting maximum points in their remaining fixtures after reaching 28 points from 13 matches.
“We only have City Lads Ladies FC left, and our plan was to reach 31 points by the end of the season. We are now three points short of that target. The plan is to push until the end and remain contenders. We just need to allow the players not only to work hard but also to enjoy their football,” said Mafene.
The Eastern Cape outfit, in its third season in the league, currently leads the Super Rise stream with 28 points from 13 matches, having recorded eight wins, four draws and one defeat.
Mafene believes the competition has been competitive, giving teams a fair opportunity to showcase their talent, although he acknowledges that there is still room for improvement.
“I believe there is still room for improvement, honestly. Nevertheless, I believe it was fair and did not favour anyone, because every team had an opportunity to host. As I said, there is room for improvement. Players were given a chance to compete and showcase their talent,” added Mafene.
UFH now shifts its attention to Saturday’s encounter against relegation-threatened City Lads Ladies FC, with Mafene anticipating a closely contested fixture.
However, the coach is confident his side can secure maximum points as they look to conclude their campaign on a positive note.
“The main goal is to finish strong, like I said. It will be closely contested, but we must collect maximum points,” he expressed.
