The members will decide if I should stand for SAFA re-election - Danny Jordaan

South African Football Association President, Dr. Danny Jordaan says only the organisation’s members from the 52 regions and associate members will decide if he’s fit for re-election or not.

Jordaan, who is now in his third term, was responding to a question from Economic Freedom Fighters member of parliament Eugene Mthethwa during a portfolio committee meeting on sport, arts, and culture with SAFA.

With the next SAFA elections scheduled for next year, Jordaan says the members will decide if they need him back.

"In any position in a democracy, you cannot give yourself a position, you cannot decide when you stay and when you go. That is the responsibility of our 52 regions; they will decide who their president should be," said the SAFA President.

DA Member Liam Joseph also asked Jordaan about being one of the longest-serving FA presidents on the planet and whether he’s a responsible leader.

He read a spreadsheet listing the SAFA president’s travels and their costs.

This is how Jordaan responded.

"It is not true that I'm one of the longest-serving presidents in World Football."

Concluding in parliament today, Jordaan says that, together with his leadership, they are victims of a political campaign aimed at discrediting them.

"South African football is at the centre of a huge debate regarding the elections. Elections is only next year, but it has already started, and you see many news outlets disseminating a lot of stories.

"You must know that there are people out there who are deliberately driving an aggressive campaign. The sad thing is, when Bafana Bafana started winning again, these people became very unhappy," said Jordaan.

Jordaan, who has been SAFA president for the past 12 years, has also denied that he ever said this would be his last term when Rise Mzansi parliament member Makashule Gana asked him the question.
