SuperSport United retain Premiership centurion Bradley Grobler

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has confirmed to SABC Sport that striker Bradley Grobler will remain at the club after the two parties put pen to paper on a new deal.

Grobler, who scored a milestone 100th goal in the premier division of the Premier Soccer League this season, will be looking to continue banging in the goals for Matsatsantsa in the 2023/24 campaign.

As earlier reported by SABC Sport, his current contract was set to run out at the end of June, but at the club's awards evening in Randburg on Monday evening, Matthews confirmed a one-year deal with an option for a further year for the 35-year-old.

"Bradley we've renewed, so he'll stay on next season, that's been finalised. You can quote me on that, I've signed he's signed. So, Bradley is in the bag next season with an option for a further year," he said.

With Thamsanqa Gabuza set to move in the new season, and Zakhele Lepasa set to return to Orlando Pirates following his short-term loan spell, Matthews also confirmed that several prospects from abroad are being lined up to support and compete with Grobler.

"It's the same thing now, we'll look at the right plan to say how can we bring pace into our front line. Then we've got two prospects from Africa that we are looking at. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to look at the PSL and see that there are not that many South African strikers that are scoring goals," he said.

"So, if we are gonna add goals, we are gonna have to add them from abroad, we are gonna have to add them from outside of South Africa. Because if you go and find me the top 5 South African goal scorers, they will all be unavailable to me."

In January, the Tshwane outfit did rope in Senegalese forward Mamour Niang, who is the younger brother of former PSL striker Mame Niang, but his slow start in the country could potentially see him shipped out on loan to another local side next season.

"It's about what we are going to put next to Bradley or ahead of Bradley, we have to manage Bradley's game time. He's quite aware of that. We brought in Niang this season and I think in fairness he hasn't really delivered and hit the ground running the way we wanted him to. So, we'll have a look at that in the preseason and see whether he needs a loan move for a while to adjust to South African football."
