Speaking on Wednesday morning, Varandas addressed ongoing speculation linking the 27-year-old Swedish international with a Premier League move, with Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly among the clubs monitoring his situation.
"I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for 60 million euros plus 10 million euros," Varandas told reporters. "Because I never promised that. To this day, Sporting has not received an offer for Gyokeres-not today, not before."
The Sporting president acknowledged that Gyokeres' agent had requested assurances during a meeting earlier in the season that the forward would be allowed to depart for less than his release clause-understood to be around 100 million euros. However, Varandas made it clear that no specific price point was agreed upon.
"What was agreed in that meeting? That Sporting would not demand the full release clause this summer," Varandas explained. "Why? Because we know players don't typically leave Portugal for 100 million euros or 90 million euros at the age of 27.
"The agent wanted to fix a price, but I said: 'It's not worth setting a value, because I don't know what the market will look like in a year. I don't know if it will be 40m, 60m, or 80m. What I can promise is that we won't demand 100m.'"
Gyokeres has emerged as one of Europe's most prolific strikers since arriving in Lisbon from Coventry City in 2023. Signed for around 20 million, the Swedish forward has repaid the investment in spectacular fashion - scoring 97 goals in just 102 appearances across all competitions, including six goals in eight Champions League matches last season.
His breakout campaign has put him on the radar of several elite clubs. Manchester United are reportedly exploring a move as they look to reunite Gyokeres with former manager Ruben Amorim, while Arsenal are also considering him as a potential addition to their attacking ranks.
Transfermarkt currently values the forward at 75 million - more than three times what Sporting paid for him two years ago - underscoring the scale of his rapid rise from a solid Championship striker to one of Europe's most in-demand forwards.
