Vieira backs relentless Viktor Gyokeres to deliver when it matters for Arsenal

Patrick Vieira has backed Viktor Gyokeres to play a decisive role in the closing weeks of the season, insisting the Arsenal forward still has more to offer despite an already impressive debut campaign.

Gyokeres has scored 18 goals in all competitions during the 2025/26 season following his move from Sporting CP, placing him among the club's most productive debut scorers in the modern era. With Arsenal locked in a tight title race, those goals could prove crucial.

Vieira, who won three Premier League titles with Arsenal, praised the striker's work ethic and belief.

"I've seen him working hard out of possession, and he's always working for the team," Vieira said. "He makes runs to create space, even when the ball doesn't come. He has more to give, and I like his energy and spirit.

"He's a real team player, and he will score goals, I don't have any doubt about that."

With Arsenal potentially set to battle Manchester City for the title on goal difference, Gyokeres' finishing could make the difference in the final run-in against Newcastle United, Fulham, West Ham United, Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Despite recent setbacks, Vieira urged the squad to stay focused on their strengths rather than dwell on defeats.

"They have to remind themselves why they are where they are," he said. "You don't reach this level without quality, team spirit and togetherness. It's about winning games, and they've been doing that for months."

He added: "In the final sprint, it's important not to forget what got you here. Don't change habits - keep doing the same things and trust the process."

Arsenal's run continues with a key league clash against Newcastle before a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid, as the Gunners push for success on two fronts.
