Siphesihle Dlamini celebrates third Varsity Football title with UWC

University of the Western Cape goalkeeper Siphesihle Dlamini expressed excitement after helping the team to retain their Women’s Varsity Football title.

This after their hard fought 1-0 victory over the University of Johannesburg in the final in Soweto on Friday.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Dlamini admitted it was not an easy tournament, and it took a bit of resilience to clinch the title away from home.

“I honestly feel very good about this milestone - winning the championshipship not just twice but three times. This is something that we were eager to achieve for a while," said Dlamini.

"We wanted to play the final at home so we could lift up the trophy in front of our supporters. It was a very tough tournament for us but I am happy that we fought until the end and that is what it takes to win championships."

The 22-year-old shot-stopper secured her third Varsity championship trophy this year, having joined Udubs in 2022, and remains hungry for more.

“Yes I am a three-champ now, I am grateful for what I have managed to achieve with the club and I still want more, we all want more," she added.

Dlamini believes winning the Varsity Football championship came at the perfect time to help boost their confidence.

"It is a confidence booster, we have been performing well in the league to be quite honest. So I was pleased that we could add the silverware to cheer us up at the club.

"Going forward we want to maintain a positive energy and face every upcoming match in the league with a positive mindset," she concluded.
