Orlando Pirates to part ways with Tebogo Tlolane

Orlando Pirates are to part ways with utility player Tebogo Tlolane, who spent the past six months out on loan at Maritzburg United.

SABC Sport has established the 28-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Buccaneers ahead of the start of the new Premier Soccer League season in the coming weeks.

Tlolane, who can play either in defense or attack, was signed by the Soweto Giants four years ago from Chippa United with much promise and potential considering his age at the time.

But he’s hardly made an impact, with sources at the club informing the public broadcaster he will not be considered part of coach Jose Riveiro’s squad prior to the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign.

Although the PSL is yet to confirm the dates, the new season is set to get underway around mid-August with the DStv Premiership followed by the MTN8.

Tlolane will be on the hunt for a club as he looks to put the Pirates chapter behind him and settle at a club where he can be a regular.

Since his move in July 2019 to the Buccaneers, the player has been on loan at Maritzburg three times – including the season that has just ended with the Team of Choice relegated to the second tier.

He initially began the campaign at Pirates under Riveiro, even making a 45-minute cameo against Stellenbosch FC in the second match of the campaign as well as one other appearance against Maritzburg four weeks later.

But it soon became clear he would not be a key player and was loaned out to the Midlands in January to be reunited with coach Fadlu Davids, who knew him from his spell at Pirates for two years.

However, Tlolane was a bit-part player there too and it now remains to be seen where he lands to try kick-start his career.
