Siwelele make breakthrough in signing Orlando Pirates defender

SABC Sport has established that Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Sesane is set for a move to Siwelele, with sources indicating the transfer is expected to be finalised ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.

While the deal is yet to be officially concluded, it is understood the move is intended to provide the centre-back with regular first-team football after a frustrating campaign disrupted by a long-term injury.

Sesane spent much of the 2025/26 season on the sidelines, featuring mainly in practice matches before making just one Betway Premiership appearance as Pirates went on to lift the league title.

The 25-year-old is a product of the Buccaneers' development academy and has previously gained valuable experience during loan spells at Jomo Cosmos and Casric Stars before establishing himself in the Pirates first team.

Prior to his injury, Sesane had formed a solid partnership in central defence and had even emerged as a player on the radar of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos before his progress was halted by injury.

Pirates currently have several options at centre-back, with Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Lebone Seema and Mpho Chabatsane and Thapelo Xoki among those capable of filling defensive roles, increasing competition for places.

A move to Siwelele would represent a fresh start for Sesane as he looks to rebuild his fitness, regain consistent minutes and rediscover the form that once made him one of the club's most promising young defenders.

Should the move materialise, it would offer the defender an opportunity to relaunch his career while remaining on the radar ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
