Miguel Cardoso keeps stay grounded as Sundowns open five-point lead

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso refused to get carried away after his side opened a five-point lead at the top of the Betway Premiership with just three matches remaining.

The reigning champions delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Polokwane City at Loftus Versfeld Sunday, just days after edging the same opponents 1-0 in a far tighter contest in Seshego.

Despite strengthening their grip on the title race, Cardoso remained composed when asked if the situation now favours The Brazilians.

"I think we need to collect all the points we have available to us. It's a story to be written, and we have to do it in order to succeed 100%, so that we don't depend on others, and we should not," said Cardoso

"We should just focus on ourselves. Matches like the ones we have been playing are on a high level, because we are in a moment where all the matches are at a high level and relate with the situation."

"There is a big beautiful, challenge ahead of us of course because it's basically almost a week and a half and then everything will be finished. So it looks like three matches but it's a week and a half.

"We have to be very strong in the way we approach every match like we have been, and being quite consistent in showing that."

"That is what we need to continue. Match by day and day by day magaing contexts and trying to perform as much as possible."

Cardoso admitted to tweaking their tactics slightly in search of a more fluid match in contrast to the previous fixtures against Polokwane City.

His counterpart Phuti Mohafe meanwhile admitted to not having answers to how ruthless Sundowns set up in their own backyard.

On substituting veteran Puleng Marema following his penalty miss – moments after coming off the bench – Mohafe insisted he had no regrets.
