Lehlohonolo Seema emerges as favourite for Sekhukhune United job

Sekhukhune United are understood to have drawn up a shortlist of candidates for the vacant coaching job, with Lehlohonolo Seema emerging as the favourite to land the role, SABC Sport understands.

The DStv Premiership side officially sacked Brandon Truter on the one-year anniversary of his appointment following a string of poor results and goalkeeper coach Johan Absalom was also sent packing.

Assistant coach Morgan Gould was another technical team member frozen out by the club in recent matches, however, his name did not appear on the official statement released by the club on Wednesday night confirming the exits.

It’s believed Truter was paid a two months settlement considering he still had a running contract with Babina Noko.

The public broadcaster understands now that the formalities are done with, Sekhukhune can move swiftly to permanently replace Truter – and Seema is thought to be top of a list that includes several other experienced mentors.

Seema himself parted ways with Polokwane City last weekend despite Rise and Shine, this season’s topflight rookies, being in sixth place on the log table after 12 matches.

There was no further explanation given for the decision other than media reports quoting Seema saying he’d resigned.

Information gathered by SABC Sport reveals there are three other names being mentioned alongside that of the former Orlando Pirates and Lesotho international defender in Dan Malesela, Ernst Middendorp and Julie Chevalier, a Frenchman who has worked with ASEC Mimosas and the Togo national team.

The Premier Soccer League outfit heads into the CAF Confederation Cup group stages from next weekend and need a coach with the relevant qualifications to sit on the bench during the inter-club tournament.

And this criteria immediately rules out Malesela, but is an advantage to Seema and the other two candidates.

But the public broadcaster has been led to believe the Sekhukhune hierarchy like the idea of having a coach who is a familiar face in the local game, has played at the highest level in the PSL and is in possession of the required badges.

This simply puts Seema as the outright favourite, but a final decision is set to be announced in the coming days.

Babina Noko placed MacDonald Makhubedu as the interim head coach until the process to hire someone permanently is concluded.
