Kaizer Chiefs purple patch should catch Hugo Broos eye - Ben Youssef

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef believes the club’s strong second half of the season has put several players firmly in contention for Bafana Bafana call-ups.

Amakhosi are on course for their highest points tally in four years and Ben Youssef feels national team coach Hugo Broos should have taken notice of the team’s recent improved performances.

While the Chiefs mentor stopped short of naming individuals, he argued that several players in the squad deserve consideration for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"From our side, like I said, the most important thing for us is to have at least three or four players from Kaizer Chiefs in Bafana Bafana when the list [is announced]," said Ben Youssef.

"Then it will be a sign that the team is coming [sic] and is ready to compete for the league, and it's not because I'm the coach of Kaizer Chiefs but, I think, some of our players deserve to get a chance based on their performances and the consistency."

Broos did confirm that goalkeeper Brandon Petersen would have been selected for the two friendlies against Panama had it not been for his appendix surgery, and the Chiefs coach had a message for his Bafana counterpart.

"I think, I remember during one of the press conferences, he thought about Sekhukhune [goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner] because they were in third position, and not about our team," he pointed out.

"I think now the performance of the team is there, the consistency is there and everybody discusses about our players, so what do they have to do to be part of Bafana Bafana, that's my question."
