Eintracht Frankfurt falter in Europe but eye Bundesliga bounce-back

Eintracht Frankfurt's Europa League journey ended in heartbreak as Tottenham Hotspur edged them out 2-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, with a controversial penalty proving decisive.

Despite a spirited second-half display, Frankfurt couldn't overturn the deficit, leaving fans and players rueing missed opportunities.

The turning point came in London, where a penalty awarded to Tottenham shifted momentum. Frankfurt battled back, creating several clear chances, but their failure to convert left them empty-handed.

Board member for sport Markus Krosche, reflecting on the defeat, expressed frustration but remained proud of his young squad.

"The penalty wasn't justified, and it stung to fall behind like that," Krosche said. "We had the chances but lacked the killer touch. Tottenham's defence held firm, and we weren't clinical enough."

Despite the loss, Krosche praised his team's effort. "This is a young group, and nerves showed early with some sloppy mistakes," he said. "But we created big opportunities, which makes this result tough to swallow."

Looking ahead, Frankfurt are now focused on the Bundesliga, where they aim to secure Champions League qualification. Their next test comes against Augsburg, a side known for causing upsets.

"Augsburg will be a challenge, but I'm confident in our squad," Krosche said. "Our Europa League campaign showed our potential, and now we're fully focused on the league."

Recent updates from Frankfurt's official X account highlight the team's determination to move forward. A post following the match read: "Gutted but proud. Our boys gave everything in Europe. Now we go again in the Bundesliga!"

Head coach Dino Toppmoller echoed this sentiment, stating in a press conference: "The lads showed character, and we'll channel this disappointment into our next fight."

With their European dreams dashed, Frankfurt are ready to regroup and chase their domestic ambitions, starting with a crucial weekend clash.
