Experience the key factor as Hugo Broos backs Bafana Bafana against Angola

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says his team has been through some difficult challenges in the past and believes that they have got all the experience to upstage Angola in their opening Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B clash on Monday.

The two teams from the COSAFA region will lock horns at the Marrakesh Stadium, in what will be their fourth clash at an AFCON tournament.

Bafana have never lost to Angola in this tournament, with two wins and a draw and Broos believes that the good run will continue against them.

"But on the other side, I believe in my team, we already did it in the past. We beat already better opponents than that. So, that means that we don't have to be afraid. We have to be confident in ourselves but they will not give us presents, we will have to play on the highest level and winning against them is enough,” Broos said.

“We don't have to think 3-0, 2-0, winning will be a very good result for us."

After having had Portuguese born coach Pedro Goncalves in charge of this team for a very long time, he recently left Angolan football for Young Africans in Tanzania.

Now at the helm is Frenchman Patrice Beaumelle, a man who is no stranger to AFCON success having won this title twice as Herve Renard’s number two, first with Zambia and Ivory Coast.

Broos knows that the Palancas Negras won’t be pushovers.

"You know, I saw Angola playing in the qualifiers, I don't know anymore against which team they played at home. They lost the game 1-0, if they played that game 10 times, they would win nine times,” the coach added.

“So, it's a good team, you can be sure and there are some good players, it's very technical and now with the new coach, the new coach is obviously giving them something extra to the players that want to prove themselves. So, that means that we will have a tough opponent next week on Monday."
