The weekend will offer a full feast of running, with the trail run set for 10 April, followed by the half-marathon on 12 April.
The training runs will offer 21km and 12km routes, designed to help runners prepare for race day.
The programme kicks off in Cape Town on 25 January, before moving to Johannesburg on 1 February and Durban on 8 February.
Another Cape Town run is scheduled for 22 February, with Tshwane and Stellenbosch hosting the final two sessions on 8 and 22 March respectively.
The official launch of the 2026 race will take place on 28 January, as thousands of runners once again target the Two Oceans Marathon as a key qualifier for the Comrades Marathon, scheduled for June in KwaZulu-Natal.
Two Oceans Marathon NPC chairperson Chris Goldschmidt says the new initiative is aimed at supporting runners while strengthening the running community.
“We’re excited to introduce six official TTOM training runs as we build toward the 2026 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon,” said Goldschmidt.
“By partnering with a variety of running clubs across the country, we aim to create experiences that truly celebrate the camaraderie, passion and excitement that define our running community. These training runs are not just preparation for race day – they’re an opportunity for runners of all levels to connect, grow and share in the spirit of the Two Oceans Marathon.”
General manager Wade Bromfield added that early communication of the dates would help runners plan their preparations.
“We’re announcing the dates now so that runners can plan, stay motivated and lock these sessions into their calendars,” said Bromfield.
“The specific start venues will be revealed on our social media channels closer to the time, as we’ll be working closely with our partnering running clubs to select the best locations. These runs are all about energy, community and shared passion – the perfect way to ignite the countdown to race day.”
Meanwhile, South African long-distance superstar Gerda Steyn, the most decorated athlete in the event’s history with a record six victories, has confirmed she will return to defend her title next year.
“Of course I am coming back to defend my title. I always aim to start with the Two Oceans before I head to the Comrades Marathon,” Steyn told the national broadcaster.
“I am excited and looking forward to next year’s race and optimistic that I will cross the finish line first again.”
The Hollywood Athletics Club athlete is also a four-time Comrades Marathon champion.
