Just four days after signing on loan from Chelsea, the 20-year-old was thrust straight into Niko Kovac's starting XI for the clash with Union Berlin, where he delivered a composed and confident debut performance.
With Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Sule, and Emre Can sidelined by long-term injuries and Filippo Mane suspended after a red card on Matchday 1, Kovac had few defensive options available.
Anselmino, however, seized the opportunity, slotting into the back line with maturity well beyond his years.
Kovac praised the loanee's performance afterwards, noting his calm presence under pressure and strong positional play.
"I think he played a world class game," said BVB's head coach.
"He made a very good impression, very confident, and very strong in the tackle."
Although the loan deal does not include a purchase clause, Dortmund are already considering ways to keep Anselmino beyond this season.
A similar arrangement to Carney Chukwuemeka's move has been floated, where the player would return to Chelsea before a fee is negotiated for a permanent transfer.
