Matthias Jaissle reveals plans after joining Newcastle as new manager

The 48-year-old German mentor joins the Magpies on a reported four-year contract following a compensation fee paid to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

He replaces Eddie Howe shortly before the start of the new Premier League season but has shown optimism in getting good results with the Tyneside club this upcoming campaign.

"Joining this marvellous club, with this fan base, is something special and a privilege," said Jaissle to official City media channels.

"The Premier League is something special by itself, but joining this club is even more special. With that fan base, with that passion the supporters show for the club, itâ™s really interesting to be part of it.

"It comes as a big privilege, but with big responsibility too. I will do my best to live up to it."

The Toons will take on LaLiga side Valencia in their next pre-season fixture on Saturday in his first encounter as head coach of the Tyneside club.

"The timing is not easy," added the former Al Ahli coach.

"It's a challenge but weâ™ve said to the staff members we need to really engage and use these three weeks before Liverpool in the best possible way."
