Mykhailo Mudryk returns as Edon Zhegrova strike earns Juventus victory over Chelsea

The Ukraine international made his first appearance since November 2024 after being cleared to return from a doping ban following a successful appeal last week. Mudryk replaced Nicolas Jackson in the 82nd minute and was warmly welcomed by the crowd at Kai Tak Stadium, with Chelsea supporters giving him a loud ovation while his teammates applauded his return.

Although the winger looked lively during his brief spell on the left flank, Chelsea were unable to find an equaliser after Juventus had taken the lead midway through the second half.

The Italian giants secured victory in the 68th minute through a superb strike from Kosovo international Edon Zhegrova. Kenan Yildiz found space before laying the ball into Zhegrova's path, and the winger curled a brilliant effort into the top corner from outside the penalty area.

The first half produced few clear-cut opportunities as both managers experimented with their line-ups. Chelsea left out regular starters Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill, while both teams struggled to create meaningful chances.

Danny Welbeck almost marked his Chelsea debut with a goal after 11 minutes, but the experienced England forward guided a flicked header wide of the target.

Juventus came closest before the break when Jeremie Boga tested Robert Sanchez with a powerful effort from outside the box, forcing the Chelsea goalkeeper into a full-length save.

Chelsea enjoyed a brighter spell after the interval, with captain Moises Caicedo sending Marco Palestra through on goal with a long pass, but the full-back's shot was comfortably saved by Mattia Perin.

Chelsea play AC Milan next in Pre-season on Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.
