Bradley Grobler agrees to new SuperSport contract

SuperSport United veteran striker Bradley Grobler has agreed to a new contract in principle and is likely to retire at the Tshwane club, SABC Sport can reveal.

The 35-year-old, who is Matsatsantsa’s all-time top scorer, is expected to sign a one-year deal with options to have it renewed further depending on discussions with the club about his future beyond his playing career.

Grobler did confirm earlier this month that he was due for a meeting with the SuperSport management to iron out the finer details with his initial deal set to expire at the end of the season on 30 June.

This was several days after he reached a milestone of 100 goals, becoming one of only six players to do so in the Premier Soccer League era.

Since joining SuperSport a decade ago, Grobler has been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs but those never materialised.

“There has been talk and interest. I've always said, with no disrespect to any other teams, I've always enjoyed myself and I've always given SuperSport first option. If it came to a point where they felt it was time to move on, I would do that but I have always given them first option,” he told journalists recently.

It’s understood the one-year contract could also include a role at SuperSport when Grobler does eventually hang up his boots.

He is this season’s second-highest goal scorer with nine league goals as things stand, just two goals shy of his Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart Peter Shalulile.
