Stellenbosch and AmaZulu in race for veteran Bradley Grobler

The former Sekhukhune United forward is a free agent after his release at the end of last season, although a U-turn on this decision hasn’t been ruled out completely even though discussions have since cooled in recent weeks.   

Grobler, who turns 39 next year, remains one of the Premier Soccer League era's most prolific goalscorers after joining the exclusive club of players to score 100 top-flight goals. Despite battling injuries in recent seasons, he still managed 11 goals in all competitions last term and continues to attract interest.

The public broadcaster understands Stellies are keen to reunite Grobler with coach Gavin Hunt, who knows the striker well and is looking to add experience following several high-profile departures ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

AmaZulu have also emerged as serious contenders. 

Usuthu exceeded expectations by finishing fourth in the Betway Premiership last season under Arthur Zwane and are believed to be targeting experienced additions to complement their youthful squad.

For now, however, Grobler has yet to make a call. 

Indications from information gathered suggests the delay is not due to a lack of interest, but rather personal considerations. The experienced striker is weighing up whether he wants to relocate away from Gauteng and spend more time away from his young family or remain closer to home.

That uncertainty could yet leave the door open for Sekhukhune should the club decide to revive talks over a possible return.
