Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig set for German Cup blockbuster

Bayer Leverkusen will host RB Leipzig in the standout tie of the German Cup last 16, while holders Bayern Munich have been handed a home meeting with second-division leaders Hertha Berlin.

Sunday's draw in Dortmund produced two all-Bundesliga clashes, with Borussia Dortmund set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in a repeat of the 2017 final.

Leverkusen, who completed the Bundesliga and German Cup double in 2024, face a Leipzig side that lifted the trophy in consecutive seasons in 2022 and 2023.

Bayern, meanwhile, will be favourites to reach the quarter-finals when they welcome Hertha, who currently lead the 2. Bundesliga by seven points.

The other all-top-flight encounter sees Borussia Dortmund host Eintracht Frankfurt, adding further quality to an intriguing round.

Elsewhere, Borussia Moenchengladbach entertain Darmstadt, Kaiserslautern host Freiburg and Holstein Kiel take on Cologne.

Augsburg travel to Bochum, while last season's runners-up Stuttgart will welcome Dynamo Dresden.

The last-16 matches are scheduled for December 1 and 2, with the quarter-finals to follow in the new year.

The German Cup final will take place at Berlin's Olympic Stadium on May 29, 2027, where Bayern will be hoping to defend their title.
