Aden McCarthy sets sights on top three finish and continental comeback

Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy has reiterated his coach Cedric Kaze’s comments that they need to finish in the top three, no matter what happens.

After a string of losses, AmaKhosi picked up their first win in two months last weekend, when they beat Durban City 1-0 at FNB Stadium.

At the beginning of the year, Chiefs looked to be on course to fight for the league title, but with the gap between them and the top two (Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates) growing larger, that dream seems unreachable.

McCarthy now says the top three will do...

"I feel like we all just need to have the same vision, and that vision is finishing in the top three, no matter what happens with other teams because that is out of our control."

McCarthy has missed some key matches this season due to injury and suspension, both in the league and CAF Confederation Cup. It’s something that doesn’t sit well with him.

"Being suspended for games or missing games is not a nice feeling because I've missed some decisive games due to that."

Chiefs host bottom-of-the-log side Magesi FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening, it’s an opportunity to win two games in a row and start building some momentum again.

McCarthy says this is the time to start taking all the games seriously.

The son of former Chiefs centre-back Fabian McCarthy says that at the moment, he feels he’s in the best condition he’s ever been as the season draws to a close in the next two months.

"Mentally and physically I'm in the best shape. I've had injuries at the start of the season but now Ive been doing a lot of recovery to look after my body and my muscles."
