FIFA imposes immediate transfer ban on Chippa United

The world governing body confirmed in a letter dated 5 August that the Chilli Boys had not fulfilled their payment agreements to the Burkina Faso international despite an earlier FIFA ruling in the player's favour.

Sanou joined Chippa during the 2023/24 season and made 12 appearances before his contract was terminated. FIFA subsequently ordered the Gqeberha-based club to compensate the midfielder following the dispute.

According to the correspondence seen by the public broadcaster, FIFA has now imposed an immediate registration ban preventing Chippa from registering new players both internationally and domestically. 

The sanction will remain in place until the outstanding amount has been paid, or for a maximum of three entire and consecutive registration periods.

It’s a significant blow given the Premier Soccer League currently has the transfer window open until 21 September. 

FIFA has also requested the South African Football Association (SAFA) to implement the ban at national level if it has not already done so.

The latest sanction is another setback for Chippa United, who are looking to strengthen their squad as the new Betway Premiership season has just kicked off. Unless the outstanding debt is settled, the club will be unable to register any new signings…
