Western Province under-20 head coach Nosipho Poswa is proud of her team after making history by winning the South Africa U20 Women’s Rugby Championship for a fourth consecutive year.

This follows their dominant 36–7 victory over rivals Eastern Province on Friday at Alberton Rugby Stadium in Johannesburg.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Poswa credited the team’s dominance in set pieces for their continued success.

“I’m beyond proud. These girls have written history by bringing the trophy home for the fourth time. What we did right was simple - we trusted the process and each other," said Poswa.

"Our set piece was dominant; our scrums and lineouts gave us front-foot ball. At the breakdown, we hunted as a unit. Most importantly, they played for the badge and for one another.

"Lion Mentality isn’t just a slogan for us - it’s how we train, how we play, and how we win."

The 42-year-old mentor added that, despite the convincing scoreline in the final match against the Eastern Province, she believes they were a challenging opponent.

"Eastern Province came to fight, and that’s exactly what we expected. They tested us early with their physicality around the fringes, but our players didn’t step back," she added.

"We stayed calm, stuck to our structure, and let our fitness and discipline carry us through. The turning point was our dominance in the scrums and line-outs, and recognising when momentum was on our side.

"The pride they showed in defence is what championship rugby is about."

Poswa says that the tournament has displayed the depth of talent within her squad, with several players capable of stepping up to the national level.

"Absolutely. This squad is filled with players who have Springbok Women potential. Our tight five are mobile and aggressive, our loose forwards thrive at the breakdown, and our backs have real X-factor.

"But talent alone isn’t enough – this tournament proved they have the temperament as well.

"With the right support and pathways, you’ll see more Western Province players wearing green and gold soon. Our job is to keep opening those doors for them."
