Proteas to play Afghanistan and New Zealand in World Cup warm-up fixtures

The Proteas will play Afghanistan and New Zealand in warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup in India after the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the fixtures.

All 10 teams in the tournament will play warm-up games from 29 September to 3 October across three venues in India - Guwahati, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram.

Temba Bavuma's charges will take on Afghanistan at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on 29 September before playing the Black Caps at the same venue on 2 October.

As at previous World Cup events, warm-up fixtures will be 50 overs per side, but will not carry ODI status as teams will be allowed to field all members of their 15-player squad in these matches.

The global tournament officially kicks off on 5 October when defending champions England face New Zealand in Ahmedabad, which will also be the venue for the final on 19 November.

The Proteas start their campaign against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on 7 October with all 10 teams playing each other in a league format with the top four countries qualifying for the semifinals.
