UWC eager for Hollywoodbets Super League varsity derby win

University of the Western Cape coach Thinasonke Mbuli says they are expecting a tight contest against the University of Johannesburg Ladies in their Hollywoodbets Super League clash on Saturday morning.

UWC come into this fixture on the back of a very slow start to this campaign, with only two wins in seven outings leaving them in 10th place on the log with just eight points.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Mbuli believes they will have to take advantage of UJ's own inconsistencies to claim maximum points at the UJ Soweto Stadium.

"Our games against UJ are always very close, so we have to prepare very well for them and we've done our analysis, so we know their strength, which is the players up front," said Mbuli.

"They are very quick and I think Mibe is doing very well for them at present, so what's common between them and us is that we didn't start well.

"They still have the same team, but in terms of results they are still maybe finding their feet, so maybe it's the perfect time to play against them. But we expect a tough match."

Mbuli says the approach against coach Nthabeleng ‘Dunga’ Modiko’s outfit is to win the one-on-one duels on the field due to their similar style of play.

"I think the way UJ set up and their formation, we play the same, so on the day it will be a matter of us winning our 1v1 battles, if we can do that, especially in the midfield, I think we can have a good game," she added.

"So our approach will be to make sure we win our 1v1 battles, be it in attack or in defence."
